Brave Thesis

When I write my essay on Brave New World, I think I'm going to address the subject of how the Brave New World society effects human connections with each other along with how the reservation sucks the humanity out of the Indians, and how John, as a mix of them both, turns out to be the most stable human being. I want to explore the interactions between the people in the Brave New World society, as well as the interactions between the people of the reservation, and how each reacts with the "outsiders".
A possible thesis would be "In Huxley's Brave New World the two separate societies were conducive to disfuntional relationships between the New World people, and likewise between the Indians, but out of the chaos of control a form of stability could be formed by mixing the two cultures".
Other possible sources I could use in my essay would be the book we use in class: Postmodernism for Beginners, the previous book we read 1984, cross-culture-ism texts. What I would really want to show is how the two different societies are not very humanistic and moral by themselves, but when they are brought together they can form real humans that care, feel, and understand what morality actually is. I would also like to address how different cultures have come together in history to help each other and achieve things together that they would not have been able to alone.
I'm not definitely sure if this is the approach I want to follow, but I like the topic, and I think it would be a nice challenge to try and argue this subject.

Good luck to me right? ^-^

If I can't follow this topic, then I will probably stick with how the technologically productive society dries up morality and humanity. They may be easier, but not as fun.

  1. Well, nice way to start the blog. I though that it was really humorous how you just got right to the point. And if you get to read Pavin’s Blog, he was talking about how horrible he is and his blog might be lame. Well let me get going with yours. Yes, I do think that you should go ahead and jump into that. I think that that’s a very interesting point, and the fact that who is the real individual in the story. John is a character to talk about, because he has just great detail to be discussed about him. Nice, job picking that one out. But I don’t see myself doing that, so I hope you make it possible. Good luck. And oh, yes. Comparing those two society will be fantastic. To see how they are alike or different. I think that you should just about which idea is the most interesting thing that you could talk about. Good luck. :D

  2. I think that this would be an interesting essay to read. I like the idea of trying to compare the two totally different types of cultures and show how together they would become more stable, but I think you should also explore the fact that they may not become stable. Yeah, John was the most stable but that might not happen to every person who is influenced by both types of societies. Maybe he just got lucky. For example look at his mother she was exposed to both and it eventually became her downfall. You should also pay attention to the fact that John was born and raised in the reservation, technically he was more or less surrounded in that lifestyle and not so much in BNW society. Also, nice tie in with using other cultures in our world for examples. Do this topic dont do the technology one because everyone writes about that. This would be a better read. But yeah good essay topic and good thesis this should be a cool subject for you to explore further.
